Aortic aneurysm is a condition in which there is a blockage in the blood vessel that carries blood to the different parts of the body.

Due to the blockage in the blood vessels the arteries may inflate like a balloon and sometime they may explode. To avoid these problems a vascular surgery is done on a person.

Operating the carotid arteries that are found in the front of the neck is also a vascular surgery. This type of vascular surgery is done to keep the flow of blood to the brain proper.

If the blood flow through the carotid arteries is blocked then some parts of the brain may not receive proper blood flow and this condition might lead to mild and severe strokes.

Duplex ultrasound, cerebral angiogram, magnetic resonance angiogram and CT scan are used to diagnose these problems due to carotid arteries.

Person who smoke often are those who are affected by carotid artery problems. They have to stop smoking if there is mild carotid disease. Vascular surgery like carotid endarterectomy is used to treat such conditions.

DVT and thrombophlebitis are also treated with vascular surgery. DVT occurs in arms and legs. These are problems due to blood clot in the veins.

Sometimes these blood clots may disintegrate and get lodged in the lungs and they may prove fatal. Conditions that lead to thicker blood than normal are those that lead to DVT and thrombophlebitis.

Other conditions that lead to DVT are obesity, infections that are severe, cancers and even pregnancy. Lodging of blood clots in the lungs is called pulmonary embolism.

Varicose veins are treated using vascular surgery. Improper functioning of the valves in the legs causes the varicose veins. Due to varicose veins the blood flow back to the heart is not proper and vice versa.

Backflow of blood is also possible which may lead to blood clots and this condition is called DVT. A vascular surgery is the solution for such problems.
