Cholecystectomy
Surgery Procedure An Easy Way to Get Rid of Gallstones
Todays
generation is going through a fast pace of life and strenuous living that
results in different types of ailments and problems. Unhealthy food habits
and improper diet leads to malfunctioning of the digestive system making
it gullible to
problems like gallstones, improper bowel
syndrome and many more. There can be many reasons when a person experiences
nausea and abdominal pain. One among them is the presence of gallstone.
When the bile juice, which flows from the liver, is high in cholesterol
and bilirubin, it results in the formation of gallstones.
The gallstone formation differs from person to person and varies in size
and form. The trouble begins when the person experiences pain in the shoulder
blades or in the upper abdomen that may also radiate giving pain in the
back.
At times
when the gallstones become big in size blocking the bile duct, the patient
goes through severe pain along with fever and chills. Such a condition
is the Choledocholithiasis.
At times, the gallbladder has too many such gallstones and the process
of removal of the gall bladder surgically is termed as Cholecystectomy.
The physician suggests the removal of gall bladder only when the patient
suffers from the following acute problems:
When the person is suffering from general condition of gallstones with
excessive pain, nausea and vomiting.
When the person suffers from a state called Cholecystitis, caused due
to an infected or inflammated gallbladder. When the person suffers from
an abnormal gall bladder functioning.
Finally, when the patient has gallbladder cancer, which is a very rare
situation.
Cholecystectomy
is of different types. They are the Standard type or the Conventional
type and the most modern one the Laparoscopic type. A surgeon decides
the surgical process depending on the choice and convenience of the patient
and on the severity of the condition.
Standard Type (Traditional) of Cholecystectomy
This is a major surgery done in the abdominal area. The surgeon makes
an opening in the gallbladder area that usually measures from five to
seven inches long and so called the Open Cholecystectomy. This surgery
takes around two hours and the patient is monitored in the hospital for
seven days. A complete recovery takes place after three months although
the patient can resort to simple and light activities after a month.
The Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy
This type of surgery is the most sought for by the patients, as it is
a modern and an easiest way to remove the gallbladder. A few small openings
made near the navel helps to insert a thin surgical instrument. A small
camera is inserted in one of the opening to help the surgeon in the surgery
process. It is the less invasive process in Cholecystectomy.
In this type of surgery, the patients can leave the hospital after an
overnight stay. The recovery time is just three weeks time. There is no
scar in the abdomen unlike open surgery. The whole process of the surgery
just lasts for about 45 to 60 minutes.
The Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy is the best way to get rid of the painful
gallstones that involves very little risk. Some patients have post-operative
bleeding, reaction to anesthesia or sometimes infection. However, generally
the surgery puts an end to all the unwanted pain and restores digestion
in the person.
The cost of the Cholecystectomy is usually borne by the Medical Benefit
Fund (MBF) according to the details given by your physician and upon the
hospital you choose. Therefore, removal of gallbladder through Cholecystectomy
is one of the most effective ways to get rid of the gallstone problem.
