What is Laparoscopic Surgery? How Different is it from the Traditional Surgery?

Advantages and Disadvantages of Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery is a good choice when compared to the traditional surgery types, mainly due to the benefits it offers to a patient. The incisions made are so small that the patient has very little postoperative discomfort. As the wound is small, it heals very fast. As the patient recovers quickly, there is minimum stay in the hospital. There is hardly any scar or only tiny ones that are not visible after the surgery as the incisions made are very small.

The internal wound is also less unlike the open surgery, so the patient’s internal organs heal faster. This gives no room for infection and inflammation. As the surgery takes place in a small and only in the required area the other organs nearby are not mutilated.

Like all other surgeries, laparoscopic surgery also has its own set of disadvantages. Laparoscopic surgery is an expensive form of surgery and not all can afford it. Its equipments are also high priced that all hospitals cannot have funds for this laparoscopic containments. The hospital needs highly skilled and trained surgeons who can perform this laparoscopic surgery. Laparoscopic surgery does not suit all patients. Patients with prior surgeries have scar tissues that they are not safe for this type of surgery.

Some patients who already have pulmonary disorders cannot tolerate the gas in the abdomen filled during the surgery. In such cases, the doctor may resort to an open surgery for the benefit of the patient.

Nevertheless, laparoscopic surgery is very popular and most of the surgeons are trained and skilled in this type of surgery. India has the excellent technology procedures in the laparoscopic surgery.
